Harold William Tolbers, 78, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Harold W. Tolbers, age 78, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. James Haun will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Harold died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.

Harold William Tolbers was born March 16, 1925, to William Carl and Lydia Amelia (Frank) Tolbers in St. Paul. He grew up on a farm near Medford and attended schools there. Harold also attended Dunwoody Institute in the electrical/refrigeration program. On May 30, 1946, he was united in marriage to Bernice lone Dusbabek in Faribault. The couple moved to Albert Lea in 1947. Harold was employed at Interstate Power Company from June 3, 1947, until May 1, 1987. He started as an apprentice, worked as a lineman, service representative, small crew foreman, and finally as a large crew foreman, retiring in May 1987. Harold was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Elks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with his family and friends, and especially the many years of traveling with his wife.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice of Albert Lea; daughter, Judy and husband Richard Zoller of Albert Lea; sons: Allen and wife Debra Tolbers of Indiana, and Barry Tolbers of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Robert Mereness and fiance Nichole, Amy and husband Michael Fischer, Christine Zoller, Shawn and wife Tracy Zoller, Brandi and husband Don Schwenk, Julie Johnson, Serena and husband Brian Gardner, and Anthony and Rebecca Tolbers; great-grandchildren: Brittany Mereness, Joseph and Dylan Fischer, Zoe and Cole Zoller, and Caden Gardner; and special friends: Ralph and wife Teresa Winkler.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mildred Thofson; sister-in-law, Doris Trytten; and daughter-in-law, Dawn Tolbers.

He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Memorials are preferred to United Methodist Church or the donor’s choice.
