Emma Katzung, 95, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Emma Katzung, age 95, of Albert Lea will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Ascension Lutheran Church. The Rev. Richard Spande will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 4, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Emma died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Emma Katzung was born Jan. 5, 1908, to John and Marie (Lohner) Kleinschrodt in Kiester. She attended school in District #87 near Mansfield. On July 12, 1928, Emma was united in marriage to Harold Katzung at Mansfield Lutheran Church. The couple farmed for many years. After Harold’s death in 1983, Emma moved to Albert Lea. She liked gardening, flowers, crocheting and quilting. Emma had made quilts for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and hundreds of them for World Relief. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Erlis Sipple; grandchildren: Jerome and wife Helenanne Sipple, Janice and husband Thomas Miller, Daniel and wife Becky Sipple, Sharon and husband Dennis Dagestad, Kenneth and wife Belinda Sipple, and Keith Sipple; 16 great-grandchildren; Ian, Shaun, Jason, Justine, Kim, Brenda, Joey, Nathan, Brianna, Beth, Bryant, Joshua, Meghan, Tyler, Travis and Zachary; one great-great-grandchild, Marcus; brothers: Herman and wife Marilyn Kleinschrodt, and George and wife Gerda Kleinschrodt; and sisters: Frieda Jensen and Elizabeth Larson.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; brothers: John, Fred and Harold Kleinschrodt; and sisters: Rose Sorensen and Anna Fink.
Emma will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.
