Weekend Planner: Festival of Arts returns to Albert Lea

The second annual Albert Lea Festival of Arts is Saturday and Sunday at Northbridge Mall. Many Midwestern artists will be exhibiting their works. In addition, there will be children’s art activities and storytellers. The &uot;Silent Symphony&uot; artwork will be on display, and a tape of the accompanying performance will be played in front of Robin One. Due to illness, the &uot;Silent Symphony&uot; performance will not be given live as originally planned.
These are the scheduled acts on center stage:
Saturday: 11 a.m. – Raks Sharqi Middle Eastern dance, Noon – Celtic harpist Rita Nauman, 1 p.m. – Goskeson & Co., 2 p.m. – Raks Sharqi, 3 p.m. – Joyce Matthies Dancers, 4:30 p.m. – Just for Kix.
Sunday: 1 p.m. – Celtic harpist Rita Nauman, 2 p.m. – Storytelling with Bev Jackson and Michael Cotter, 3 p.m. – Jeff Hugo, guitarist, 4 p.m. – Troy Kirsch, Luke Rye and Paul Goodnature.

Following is a roundup of events happening in the area this weekend:
Friday, March 21
&045; The American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days will take place at local banks during business hours. Fresh daffodils are available for a $7 donation per bunch.
&045; The elementary art exhibit continues at the Albert Lea Art Center. Students from all Freeborn County schools as well as home-schoolers have been invited to participate. Gallery hours are from noon-4 p.m. Admission is free.
&045; St. Theodore Catholic Church will hold a fish fry from 5-6:30 p.m. in Marian Hall. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Children under 3 eat free. The menu includes fish, baked or mashed potatoes, cole slaw, rolls and ice cream with toppings.
&045; The Alden-Conger School will present &uot;Bye Bye Birdie,&uot; a musical comedy, at the Alden-Conger High School gym at 7 p.m.Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students. They are available at the Alden-Conger High School office, at Andersen Hallmark stores in Albert Lea, and from cast members. Tickets will also be available at the door.
