AUSTIN &045; David Lillemon has resigned as Riverland Community College men’s basketball coach. Lillemon will continue to serve as the College’s men’s athletic director, as well as continuing his role as the men’s and women’s golf coach. In addition to retaining these responsibilities, Lillemon will take on additional teaching responsibilities expanding his role as a physical education and health instructor to include teaching mathematics.

“I will miss the competition, but I won’t miss the time on the road recruiting,” said Lillemon. “Recruiting is very demanding. I am excited about the opportunities to teach more in the classroom and spend more time with my family.”

Lillemon has had a long and successful career at Riverland including 16 years at the helm of the men’s basketball program. He started in the fall of 1987 as head football, basketball and baseball coach. In 1990 he became the men’s athletic director and continued coaching basketball and baseball for six more years. For the past seven years, he has served as the men’s athletic director, men’s basketball and men’s and women’s golf coach.

Lillemon coached All-American John Van Beek of Glenville in 1993-95 and nine all-state players, including five academic All-state players. Twice his teams were the grade-point-average leaders in the state. The team this past fall had a cumulative GPA of 3.21.
