Funeral services for Arlo H. Mehus, age 73, of Coronado, Calif., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2003, at First Lutheran Church, Glenville. The Rev. Mark Wendland will officiate. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Glenville. Military honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County servicemen’s organizations. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today, March 2, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Arlo Harland Mehus, who was born in Hayward, on Nov. 19, 1929, succumbed to cancer on Feb. 23, 2003, at the age of 73.
Arlo attended school in Glenville. He enjoyed camping and fishing in his earlier years and was a world traveler for many years. In August 1947, Arlo joined the United States Navy. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in September 1977. After retiring from the Navy, Arlo went to work for the United States Postal Service for 23 years. Arlo loved his family very much. He also loved his friends and spent many mornings at the local coffee shop with his buddies.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Mehus; children: Susan Foss of Roseau, Minn., David Mehus and wife, Mary of Long Beach, Calif., and Bruce Mehus and wife, Denise of Poway, Calif.; and nine grandchildren, who were all very proud of their father and grandfather. Surviving siblings, all who reside in Minnesota, are sisters: Irene Gordon, Darlene Dobberstein and husband, Carl, and Donna Nelson and husband, Dennis; brothers: Virgil Mehus and wife, Helen, Marion Mehus and wife, Audrey and Herbert Mehus; and sister-in-law, Audrey Mehus.
Arlo was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Glen and Eugene and a great-grandson.
A memorial service was held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Coronado on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003. Arlo will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. We were all so blessed to have had this wonderful man in our lives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Cemetery or donor’s choice.
