Albert Lea City Attorney Steven Schwab said he would charge William Diaz Sr., 37, the owner of a seized tiger, with violations of both a city ordinance and state law, alleging that the tiger was mistreated. The complaint was expected to be filed today.
City police confiscated the two-month-old tiger from Diaz, who did not have a required city permit for a wild animal, on Jan. 14.
Beside the city ordinance, Schwab decided to add charges of state law violations for mistreating an animal after receiving a report from a veterinarian who examined the tiger.
The report indicates anemia and some nourishment problems among others, Schwab said.
A family member of Diaz said that Diaz is no longer living at the 425 W. College St. residence, and the tiger belongs to his 15-year old daughter. They also said that they would move the tiger out of the city.
But, Schwab confirmed that Diaz has ownership of the house and is responsible for getting the permit.
