The weekend provided plenty of bluster. Just how windy was it?

The windiest moment recorded in Freeborn County came at 3:25 p.m. Saturday when a gust reached 34 mph about eight miles south of Albert Lea. The Minnesota Department of Transportation recorded the speed.

About that time, the automated weather observation station at the Albert Lea Municipal Airport was recording sustained wind speeds of 16 to 20 mph out of the northwest, with gusts of 24 to 29 mph.

The Chanhassen bureau of the National Weather Service has compiled a county-by-county database on its site of wind speeds from the weekend.

A weather observer recorded a gust of 44 mph in Faribault County at 2:18 p.m. a mile south of Winnebago. That was the biggest one for that county, inching out a 43 mph gust recorded by MnDOT at 2:16 p.m. two miles south of Blue Earth.

It says the biggest gust in Steele County came five miles northeast of Ellendale at 4:48 p.m. MnDOT recorded a wind speed of 36 mph. The Owatonna airport also recorded a 36 mph gust. It came at 3:14 p.m.

The Waseca airport recorded a gust of 36 mph at 3:16 p.m., marking the highest wind speed recorded in Waseca County.

Wind speeds in Albert Lea began to pick up around 5:45 a.m. Saturday and a dropped Sunday late afternoon, calming by 9 p.m.

Mower County is observed by the La Crosse bureau and, in Iowa, the counties of Worth and Winnebago are observed by the Johnston bureau.
