Lori Rud came to Albert Lea to help people better themselves.

Rud is in her second term with AmeriCorps. She serves as a tutor with the Adult Basic Education and Family Literacy programs four days a week at Brookside. Rud was in Oregon last year working with kids after school, educating them on gardening and environmental issues.

Rud enjoys that AmeriCorps gives her the chance to give back to the community and help people better themselves.

&uot;They’re not made to be here; they want to be here,&uot; she said. &uot;You get to meet a lot of nice people.&uot;

Rud is not sure what she wants to do with her future when she is done with her term the adult basic education and family literacy programs. She is leaning toward going back to school with the money that AmeriCorps pays her to use towards educational pursuits.

Until then Rud will keep on helping people attain the &uot;things they need to get through life.&uot;
