Phyllis J. Pechacek, 84, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Phyllis J. Pechacek, age 84, of Albert Lea, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Phyllis died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Phyllis J. Pechacek was born May 31, 1918, to Delbert A. and Christi (Ringham) Foster in Albert Lea. She attended schools in Albert Lea and Ellendale, graduating from Ellendale High School. Phyllis graduated from Mankato State Teacher’s College and taught school for nine years. On Dec. 31, 1941, she was united in marriage to Andrew N. Pechacek at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church, rural Ellendale. During World War II, Phyllis worked at Douglas Aircraft in California while Andrew was overseas. Phyllis was a member of the Cooties Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary, serving as president for two years. She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her husband; three sons: Norman and wife Cynthia of Colorado Springs, Colo., Noel and his wife Peggy of Albert Lea, and Miles, also of Albert Lea; grandchildren: David, Laura, and Daniel of Colorado Springs, Colo., Heidi of Albert Lea, and Brett of Independence, Mo.; sister, Bette Myers of Mankato; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Vance; two brothers, Fred and Orvis; and sister, Isabel.
