G-E boys drop season opener at Lake Mills

LAKE MILLS, Iowa &045; The border battle was not much of a battle this year.

It was a blowout

The Lake Mills Bulldogs went on an 21-5 run in the second quarter and never looked back while defeating Glenville-Emmons 66-38 in an interstate nonconference boys’ basketball game at Lake Mills Monday night.

&uot;We had a solid overall game tonight,&uot; said Bulldogs coach Kyle Menke. &uot;I was very pleased with our defensive intensity and balanced scoring.&uot;

The score was close throughout the first quarter, which ended with a 10-9 Lake Mills lead. The Bulldogs stretched it to 31-10 at halftime and 51-23 after three quarters.

Mike Stensrud led Lake Mills with 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Joe Woelfel had 12 points and eight rebounds. Other scorers: Derek Richards 11 points, Brad Rogstad nine, Levi Kester four, Ben Mannes four, Grant Brekken three, Dan Sherman three, Jeremi Throne three, Adam Odegaard one. Jared Finer had four assists. Rogstad, Brekken and Throne hit three-point baskets for the Bulldogs.

Mike Yocom scored 10 points to lead the Wolverines. Also scoring: Matt Webb eight, Jake Hansen six, Wade Flattum five, Tyler Ziebell four, Jarrod Knutson three, Seth Buchanan two.

It was the season opener for both teams. The Bulldogs open North Iowa Conference play Thursday at Northwood-Kensett. The Wolverines play tonight at Alden-Conger.
