GLENVILLE &045; An agonizingly slow start left the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines trying to catch up all night.

They finally did. But they couldn’t hold on.

The Wolverines overcame an 11-1 deficit to eventually tie Blooming Prairie 37-37 midway through the fourth quarter but wound up losing 45-37 in a nonconference girls’ basketball game at Glenville Tuesday night.

&uot;We were 0-for-12 in the first quarter,&uot; said Wolverines coach Lisa Ziebell. &uot;And they weren’t bad shots. We just came out cold. I think that was the difference in the game.&uot;

The biggest positives for the Wolverines, according to Ziebell, were rebounding and turnovers.

&uot;We had 30 rebounds, which is big,&uot; said Ziebell. &uot;We’re pretty happy with that. And we had only 12 turnovers, which for a first night is pretty impressive I think.&uot;

The Wolverines’ leaders: Jenna Brackey 13 points, two rebounds; Katie Brackey 10 points, six rebounds; Sara Greibrok six points, four rebounds; Alisa Rayman four points, nine rebounds; Ellen Hansen two points; Lauren Bremer two points, seven rebounds.

&uot;Overall, I was pretty pleased for an opener,&uot; said Ziebell. &uot;I would have liked to have gotten the win, but I was happy with the girls. They hung in there. I’m excited for the tournament coming up.&uot;

The Wolverines play Friday and Saturday in the St. Ansgar Invitational.
