Duane Francis Horan, age 80, of Albert Lea, formerly of Ellendale, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea.
He was born Nov. 5, 1921 in Jackson, Minn., the son of John and Amelia (Untiedt) Horan. Duane graduated from Freeborn High School in 1940. He was a Golden Gloves boxer from 1941 through 1944. Following high school he worked on a farm with his future wife’s father. Duane married Corrine Bartness July 14, 1944 in Hartland. He was in the U.S. Army from April 1945 to July 1946. Duane was a steeplejack, building, painting, and fixing water towers in the Midwest and southern states. In the early 1950s the family moved to the Hollandale area and later in the 1950s settled in rural Ellendale. Duane was a foreman for Northern Valley Packing Corporation, he worked for AMPI, and retired from Viking Chemical. He was a model for artist Lloyd Herfindahl. Duane raised and trained horses, belonged to the Rough Rider Saddle Club, and rode in the Grand National Rodeo Parade with his oldest daughter. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include sons: Delane “Pat” and Dorrie Horan of Hollandale, Randy and
Cindy Horan of Austin, and Ricky and Audrey Horan of Ellendale; daughters: LaRae “Lu” and Gary Hansen of Blooming Prairie, Teri and Jerry Finke of Northwood, Iowa. Cynthia and Curt Esplan of Blooming Prairie, and Linda Peterson of Blooming Prairie; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Merle Horan of Verndale, Minn.; and sister, Jean Anderson of Geneva.
He was preceded in death by his wife Corrine, and his parents.
Visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home, 1930 Austin Rd. Owatonna, from 4-8 p.m. today and on Tuesday at Community Lutheran Church, Geneva, from 10-11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Community Lutheran Church, Geneva. The Rev. Joel Xavier of Community Lutheran Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Hartland Cemetery.
