Here are highlights in history for Dec. 8, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1984 — A Tribune ad said customers could have the week’s special, broiled top sirloin with salad bar and potato for $9.50, at the Wheel & Lantern Restaurant, a part of the Albert Lea Inn, 2301 E. Main St.
1974 — Hattie Ringham closed her grocery store on South Pearl Street after 50 years of service to the neighborhood.
1969 — A total of 9 1/2 inches of snow was reported for the week by the weather observation station at Wilson & Co.’s south (livestock) gate.
