Lawrence Theodore Schewe, 90, Austin

Lawrence Theodore Schewe of Austin, age 90, died Sunday evening, Sept. 15, 2002, at Austin Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 13, 1912, to Henry and Ora (Emory) Schewe in Twin Lakes. He attended Twin Lakes-Emmons country school. After marriage to Stella Pearl Nelson on Nov. 20, 1934 in Northwood, Iowa, Lawrence farmed in the Twin Lakes area. They moved to the Albert Lea-Oakland area and continued to farm. After retirement Lawrence and Stella moved to Austin and opened a lawn service. Stella died Oct. 19, 1994. Lawrence moved into St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in January 2000. Over the years he enjoyed playing cards, belonged to the Senior Citizen Center, and attended worship at St. Mark’s Chapel.

Survivors include children: Charlotte Lukes (Dean) of Austin, Marlene Johnson-Hall (William Hall) of Stewartville, Keith Schewe (Deanna) of Glenville, L. D. Schewe (Betty) of Austin, LaVonne Johnson of Camano Island, Wash., Dennis Schewe (Geralyn) of Austin, and Rick Schewe (Cheryl) of Austin; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Marvel Callahan of Twin Lakes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel, Austin, with the Rev. Greg Mannel officiating. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Worlein Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, and one hour before the service.
