Dean C. Waltz, 75, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Dean C. Waltz, age 75, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Linda Gunderson will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by area servicemen’s organizations. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the Chapel.

Dean died suddenly Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester from complications of surgery.

Dean C. Waltz was born March 9, 1927, to Caleb 0. and Della M. (Johnson) Waltz in Albert Lea. He attended public school in Freeborn County and had been a lifetime resident here. Dean was baptized and confirmed in Hartland Lutheran Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a medical corpsman. On Dec. 20, 1977, Dean was united in marriage to Dorothy Hall Olson in Albert Lea. He had worked at Wilson & Company for 34 years and also farmed before his retirement. Dean was a member of the Moose, Eagles, American Legion, and Senior Citizens. He enjoyed old-time music, playing his accordion, playing cards, doing word puzzles, fishing, and gardening. Other favorite pastimes included helping and working on the farm, spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and visiting with friends and neighbors, especially Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Dahl.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Albert Lea; children: Daryl Waltz and wife Donna of Albert Lea, Dale Waltz and wife Debbie of Rochester, Dalys Waltz and wife Diane of Ellendale, Darla Pruitt and husband Hallie of French Settlement, La., Dana Waltz of Ellendale and his friend Darcy Lehmann of Albert Lea, Dalare Delaney and husband John of Medford, Dylan Waltz and wife Jennifer of Simpsonville, S.C., Darcy Waltz of Clarks Grove, Judith Ann McDonnell and husband Jerry of Anchorage, Alaska, Joanne Hansen and husband Gene of Albert Lea, and Mary Linda Heintz of Burnsville; 25 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Virgil Waltz of Austin; sisters-in-law: Joy White and husband Lawrence of Twin Lakes, and Synola Payne of Albert Lea; aunt, Ruth Johnson Werner; and uncle, Maynard Johnson and wife Anne.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Caleb and Della Waltz; sister-in-law, Jean Waltz; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He will be sadly missed by his family and all those who knew him.
