In the past few weeks soldiers in Albert Lea’s Delta Company in Kuwait have been receiving care packages from Best Buy. The company sent about 3,300 packages to soldiers in the Minnesota National Guard.

“It’s great to see that a major corporation, headquartered in Minnesota, is rallying support for Minnesota troops,” Capt. Eric Athman, commander of Delta Company, said.

The packages were assembled on Nov. 10 and 11 by 600 Best Buy employees, before Best Buy was presented the Yellow Ribbon Award by Gov. Mark Dayton and Maj. Gen. Richard C. Nash, adjutant general of the Minnesota National Guard. The packages were sent to about 3,300 soldiers in the 34th Infantry Division of the Minnesota National Guard. The soldiers in the division are deployed to Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Best Buy has gone above and beyond by providing great care packages for soldiers serving in Kuwait,” Athman said.

Packages included a variety of items including beef jerky and other snacks, toiletries, CDs, DVDs, cameras, video games and sports memorabilia, among other items. Athman said Best Buy also offered discounts and education on technology that can help deployed soldiers.

“They have continued to support us by providing care packages during the holiday season,” Athman said.

Albert Lea’s Delta Company is part of the 2nd Battalion, 135th Infantry Regiment, within the 34th “Red Bull” Division.
