GENEVA &045; For Naomi Wangsness, buying Geneva Foods and Deli was more than just a business venture. She was also doing her community a favor.
&uot;The store had been for sale for a long time and was going to close if someone didn’t buy it,&uot; Wangsness said. &uot;Geneva needs a place where people can stop for coffee, or pick up a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread.&uot;
After operating a restaurant in Ellendale for seven years Wangsness is experienced in the food service industry. She actually purchased the store Dec. 30, 2001 from Jeff and Sharon Lageson and opened it just three days later.
Under Wangsness’ ownership the grocery now serves a full breakfast in addition to its lunch menu of burgers and sandwiches. She has also opened up the deli area by removing some shelving. Geneva Foods and Deli is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with the kitchen closing at 2:15 p.m.; and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sundays.
You can find Wangsness at her business almost any day of the week. Her daughters are also helping out with mom’s new venture. &uot;We just plan to continually serve good food and build up a reputation,&uot; said Wangsness of her plan for success.
