Austin pitcher Kyle Rizzi was in control from the beginning, and Albert Lea lost any chance it had right away.

Rizzi’s mix of pitches rendered the Albert Lea bats silent, while an

error in the bottom of the first inning sparked the host Austin

Legion Post 91 baseball team to an 11-1, five-inning victory in First

District action Thursday night at Marcusen Park.

Albert Lea starting pitcher Isaiah Parry surrendered 10 runs on 12

hits through his 3-2/3 innings, while Rizzi allowed only one hit.

Dave Villareal had Albert Lea’s only hit off Rizzi &045; a single that

moved Derek Goodnature into scoring position in the fourth.

Goodnature reached on Austin’s only error and moved to third after

Parry grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. A wild pitch from Rizzi

allowed Goodnature to scramble home from third.

The lone Albert Lea run did little to cut into Austin’s then 7-0

lead. Post 91 had three extra-base hits in the third inning,

including back-to-back doubles by Nels Nelson and Mike Leathers.

Mike Minehart relieved Parry in the bottom of the fourth, getting a

fielder’s choice grounder to end a three-run Austin inning. Minehart

allowed only one hit in the fifth, but it was Johnson’s bases-loaded

two-out single to the fence that plated the game-ending run. Parry struck out three and walked two in the loss.

“He was getting ahead, it’s just a location thing,&uot; Albert Lea coach

Matt Trygstad said of Parry. &uot;No 0-2 pitch should be anywhere near

the plate.&uot;

Grant Lunning led off the bottom of the first with a single and scored on Andy Klapperick’s double. Austin led 3-0 after a throwing

error on Rizzi’s sacrifice bunt allowed Klapperick and Nick Bowe to score.
