Charles Abbey, 87, Glenville

Charles Abbey was born June 15, 1915 and died Friday, July 5, 2002.
Charles left home at the age of 14 to work on a farm for Lester McHenry.
He served in the army during World War II and was a tank driver in the Battle of the Bulge.
He married Delores Holmes in 1947 in Mason City, Iowa, and they were married for 52 years.
He was a supervisor for Swift. & Company in Mason City for 15 years, and then retired from Wilson & Company of Albert Lea after 30 years. Charles was a member of the American Legion in Glenville and the VFW in Northwood, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by three sisters: Bessie, Pearl and Irene; and two brothers: Clifford and Lloyd.
He is survived by two sons: Richard of Glenville, and Chauncey of Reno, Nev.; one daughter, Marsha of Burlington, Iowa; two sisters: Edna of Glenville, and Fern of Rochester; two grandsons; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
The Cremation Society of Minnesota is in charge of arrangements.
