David R. Melom, 55, Hastings

Services for David R. Melom were held at the Morris Nilsen Chapel in Richfield on July 3, with the Rev. Marcus Mork officiating.

David, age 55, of Hastings, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis due to congestive heart failure.

He was born April 24, 1947, in Minneapolis, the son of Arnold and Donna (Houglum) Melom.

As a child he moved with his family to parishes his father served which were Detroit Lakes, Howard Lake and Byron. After graduating from high school at Byron, he attended Augsburg College and later the University of Minnesota.

In 1969 he enlisted in the Army, serving at various posts, including Hawaii. That same year he married Patty Bridges. They were later divorced.

Following discharge from the Army he worked at Val Spar and Sierra Corp. in Minneapolis.

For the past four years David has resided at the Veterans Home in Hastings.

Left to mourn are his mother, Donna Melom of Albert Lea; sister, Janet Gardner (David) of Montevideo; brother, Kenneth Melom of St. Louis Park; niece and nephew: Kimberly and Brock Gardner of Montevideo; nephew, Tim Melom of Richfield; aunts, uncles and cousins; and special friends: Darrell Trystad, Mike Peterson and Bruce Egertson, all of the Minneapolis area.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and by his father, the Rev. Arnold J. Melom.

David was kind and compassionate. He will be deeply missed.
