Funeral services for Marvin (Hockey) Hockinson, age 77, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, at St. Theodore Catholic Church of Albert Lea. The Rev. Robert Schneider will officiate. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 1, at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a scripture prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Theodore Catholic
Cemetery, Albert Lea. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Area Veterans Groups.
Marvin (Hockey) Hockinson died peacefully at the Albert Lea Medical Center after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Marv was born on Aug. 20, 1924 in Albert Lea. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving in World War II. He worked at the Oliver Corp. in Charles City, Iowa, General Mills Mechanical Division in Minneapolis, and for Scotsman in Albert Lea as a methods engineer from 1964 until 1986. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW.
With golf being his favorite pastime, he was a member of the Green Lea Golf Course for 35 years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty of Albert Lea. Children include Mary Jo Crill of Champlin, Minn., Dan (Betty Jo) of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and Jim and Mick (Diane) of Albert Lea. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and brothers: Don (Ivy) of Ankeny, Iowa, and Bob (Marlene) of Mora, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Grace (Freeman) and Melvin Hockinson; and granddaughter, Sara.
