The Memorial Service for Julius “Salty” “Dude” Saltness, Jr., of Albert Lea, Minnesota, will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 in the Chapel at the ThorneCrest Retirement Center in Albert Lea. Pastor Dwight Netzer will officiate. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by Fort Snelling National Rifle Squad.

Saltness died on Friday, June 21, 2002 at ThorneCrest Retirement Center,

Health Care Wing. He was 90 years of age.

He was born on April 10, 1912, in Montevideo, Minnesota the son of

Helga (Hawkinson) and Julius Saltness Sr. He graduated from Montevideo High School and attended the University of Minnesota. He served our country in the U.S.

Air Force in Central Europe, Northern France, and Normandy, from April of 1942 until his honorable discharge in September of 1945. On October 21, 1945, he married Iva Lybarger in Gaylord, Minnesota. They lived in Montevideo for a short time and then lived in Ontario, Calif. where he worked for Lockheed Aircraft Services for 23 years. He participated in the development of several secret high performance aircraft. After he retired, they returned to Minnesota to live in St. Charles and later made their home in Albert Lea. He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion.

Saltness is survived by his sister Doris Wolgamot of Mahtomedi, Minn.,

brother-in-law Sam Suter of Montevideo, Minn., and several nieces, nephews,

and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Iva, his siblings, Percy, Hildor,

Stanley “Tiny”, Lenore, and Phyllis.
