To commemorate former employees who died recently, Freeborn County Community Action dedicated two shelter apartments after the dedicating colleagues.
The names of Deb Carberry and Marvin Wittmer – both of whom died last year – were placed on the entrance doors Friday.
Carberry worked for the organization as a part of a work-study program at Riverland Community College. And Wittmer was an employee assigned through the Green Thumb program for senior workers.
“With these plates, they will live in our community forever,” Director Collette Turcotte said in front of other employees, family members and friends.
Community Action operates three apartments as temporary shelters for needy families. A family, usually a single-parent one, can stay there up to three months to prepare for establishing a self-sustainable life with solid employment.
