Wolverines sweep lop-sided doubleheader

OSTRANDER &045; The wind was blowing out, and the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines blew out the home team.

The Wolverines registered 41 runs while sweeping a Southeast Conference softball doubleheader 22-3 and 19-3 over LeRoy-Ostrander/Grand Meadow at Ostrander Thursday.

&uot;It was a rough night, it was tough to play ball,&uot; said Wolverines coach Bob Staska. ‘We played well defensively, and Jill (Delger) pitched pretty well too.&uot;

Pitching was where the home team struggled. The Wolverines drew 17 walks in the opener and 14 in game two while totaling 21 hits.

Delger allowed only one hit in four innings of game one. Jenna Brackey pitched the fifth.

Ellen Hansen hit a grand slam home run and Delger had a two-run homer. Megan Avery and Brackey had two hits apiece. Becky Anderson, Jill Yost and Kelly Yost each added one hit.

Delger went the route in the second game, which the home team called after four innings.

Avery was 3-for-3 with four RBIs, Katie Kimble 2-for-2. Players with one hit each were Delger, Becky Ericksen, Yost, Brackey, Ashley Wangen and Amy Fredrickson.

The Wolverines improved to 11-6 overall and 9-5 in the conference. They have a nonconference game today at NRHEG.
