The county board will hold a hearing for a redistricting plan for the November county commissioner election at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The county will recommend no changes in the current electoral district boundaries for the commissioners. But the variance in the population of one district is very close to a 10-percent deviation from the average, which results in mandatory redistricting.
Census 2000 shows that the population in the current third district, represented by Dan Springborg, is 7,153, which exceeds the average district population of 6,517 by 9.96 percent, while the second district has only 5,966.
The board will also discuss
a new justice center.
Blue Earth County Administrator Dennis McCoy and Olmsted County Associate County Administrator Mary Callier will be present at the meeting to provide information about their experience in dealing with an increased need for a new jail in their counties.
The commissioners will also examine the possibility of conducting additional jail-needs research and building a separate work-release facility instead of the new judicial center.
Other items on the agenda include discussion on a request by David Hanson for the construction of a new swine facility in Bath Township and consideration of a liquor license for Hutch’s Corner Restaurant and Bar in Hayward Township.
