EMMONS &045; With their fifth baseball game in five days, the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines were in dire need of a pitcher, and coach Louie Toulouse didn’t know where to look.

He didn’t have to look far.

Nick Flatness stepped up and did the job.

A senior right-hander who hasn’t pitched since last summer’s American Legion season, Flatness threw a five-inning two-hitter as the Wolverines completed a doubleheader sweep of Lyle/Austin Pacelli at Emmons Friday. The Wolverines won 5-2 and 10-0, improving to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in the Southeast Conference.

&uot;I wasn’t sure who was going to pitch,&uot; said Toulouse. &uot;Nick wanted to do it, and he pitched a real good ballgame. And our bats started to come around a little better in the second game.&uot;

The Wolverines won game one despite getting only four hits, two by Matt Learn and one apiece by Flatness and Paul Kleven. Learn and Flatness each drove in a run. Kleven scored three times.

Learn did not allow an earned run in six innings. He struck out eight and walked two.

Flatness fired strikes in game two, fanning six while not issuing a walk.

Learn was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored, Kleven 2-for-3 with three runs. Jay Wadding, Mitch Meier, Chase Rayman and Flatness added one hit apiece.

Lyle/Pacelli’s record fell to 1-9.

&uot;We were expected to win, and they were both nice wins for us,&uot; said Toulouse. &uot;It keeps a good season going. We’re playing a little shorthanded, playing some kids out of position, but we continue to win.&uot;

The Wolverines face Fillmore Central in a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader Monday at Glenville.
