June G. Johnson, 86, Lake Mills, Iowa

The funeral service for June G. Johnson of Lake Mills, Iowa, formerly of Albert Lea, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Sion Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, Iowa. The Rev. Roger Dykstra officiated. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.
June died on Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at the Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City. She was 86.
She was born on June 30, 1915, in Lucan, Minn., the daughter of August and Eva (Billman) Bitker. She graduated from Ventura High School, Ventura, Iowa. On Aug. 21, 1938, she married Orville M. Johnson in Clear Lake, Iowa. They made their home in Albert Lea in 1950. She had worked at Wilson’s in Albert Lea at the credit union for several years. Shortly after Orville’s death in 1999, June moved to Lake Mills, Iowa.
She had been a member of First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, and had recently transferred her membership to Salem Lutheran in Lake Mills, Iowa.
June’s life centered on her family, and she found much enjoyment in doing handiwork and crocheting, much of which she shared with her grandchildren.
June is survived by three children: JoAnn and her husband Vern Orth of Nisswa, Minn., Beverly and her husband Gene Haugo of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Wayne Johnson and his wife Judy of Brighton, Mich.; grandchildren: Mark Orth and his wife Lisa of Prior Lake, Minn., Jan Werner of Prior Lake, Kim and her husband Mark McCallum of Prior Lake, Lisa Orth of Prior Lake, Debra and
her husband Gary Hanson of Northwood, Iowa, Kristine Heitland of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jon Haugo and his wife Pam of Lake Mills, and Shelby Johnson of Battle Creek, Mich., and her fiance Andy Brownell; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Bitker and his wife Blanche of McAllen, Texas; a sister, Eleanor and her husband, Ray McCoid of Mason City, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Alton Johnson of Clear Lake, Iowa, Kenneth Johnson and his wife Olga of Surprise, Ariz., Leonard Johnson and his wife Betty of Albert Lea, and Nina and her husband Paul Emmons of Thiensville, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville, in 1999; a son, Jerry Dean Johnson in infancy; brothers: Roy, Carl and Kenneth Bitker; and two sisters: Maxine in infancy, and Laurene Gau.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial to the Hospice of North Iowa.
