Thomas K. Osmundson, 61, Albert Lea

Memorial services for Thomas K. Osmundson, age 61, of Albert Lea, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at Salem Lutheran Church. The Rev. Omar Stuenkel and Mike Ellis will officiate. Private interment will take place at a later date. Visitation is 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home.

Tom died Monday, April 15, 2002, after a battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.

Thomas Kent Osmundson was born April 25, 1940, to Norman T. “Ike” and Marion E. (Diedrich) Osmundson in Albert Lea. He attended St. Mary’s elementary school, graduated from Albert Lea High School, and attended Faribault Technical College. Tom served in the United States Army from November 1958 – February 1962. On May 11, 1963, he was united in marriage to Jean Marie Werner at the Church of St. Theodore in Albert Lea. Tom was employed as a supervisor at Cedar Valley Services and owned Tom’s Typewriter Repair for 20 years. He was a lifelong resident of Albert Lea. Tom was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and a former member of Church of St. Theodore. He took pride in his yard and his flowers and did woodworking and had made many beautiful items for his family. Tom was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and he will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; daughter, Cindy Jo Dowd and her husband Virgil of St. Cloud and their children, Andrea and Sara; daughter, Kelli Irene Nelson and her husband Andy and their children, John and Katie; son, James Matthew Osmundson and his wife Cherie and their children, Derrick, Brittany and Tyler; and daughter, Peggy Jean Osmundson all of Albert Lea; brothers and sisters: Joan Carr and her husband Bruce, Mary Tharaldson and her husband Rod, William Osmundson and his wife Bev, Richard Osmundson and his wife Dee, Timothy Osmundson, and Robert Osmundson; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Richard and Jan Werner, Dean and Kay Werner, Jack and Donna Werner, Linda and Doug Blair, Laura and Jerry Colbert, and Susie and Greg Bigelow; and many nieces and nephews. Thomas is also survived by his special pet, Buster.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Marion; his father, “Ike;” his grandmother, Mathilda; his grandfather, John; his father- and mother-in-law, Raymond and Betty Werner; and his nephew, Cory Werner.
