FARIBAULT – On the bus ride to Faribault, there was only one thing on the mind of Glenville-Emmons softball coach Bob Staska.

“I was wondering the whole way there which field we were going to play on,” said Staska. “If the wind is blowing in, a team like (Bethlehem Academy) can give you some problems.”

The wind was blowing out. And the Wolverines had no problem.

Jill Delger led off the game with a home run over the left fielder’s head, setting the tone for a 16-4 nonconference victory Tuesday.

The Wolverines took advantage of the wind and walks, drawing 13 bases on balls.

“We were very patient at the plate,” said Staska. “We didn’t swing at bad pitches, and when it was up in the strike zone, we hit it hard. I was happy with our performance offensively. But we need to improve our defense a little bit.”

Despite committing four errors, the Wolverines ended the game after five innings by the 10-run rule.

Delger pitched the first two innings for the win. Jessica Claussen and Jenna Brackey went the final three.

Delger was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Seven players had one hit each: Sam Stadheim, Megan Avery, Jill Yost, Katie Brackey, Katie Kimble, Amy Fredrickson and Claussen.

The Wolverines, 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Southeast Conference, host Mabel-Canton in a 4:30 doubleheader at Glenville Thursday.
