Tiger’s Roar 2002: &uot;Tiger Pride – American Pride&uot; will be presented Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 14, 15 and 16, in the Albert Lea High School auditorium.
The annual showcase of student talent will be presented at 7 p.m. each evening.
According to Todd Brist, who is directing the production this year along with Lynda Kiester, what’s happened in the country in the last six months led to the choice for the theme. &uot;Plus we’ve had a big push in our school to boost school pride,&uot; he added.
Auditions for the show were held in mid-February. A panel of students and two adults chose the 24 acts which will be appearing from the 35 auditioning. The acts which will perform were announced March 1.
This year, &uot; The Deadbeats,&uot; a group of high school seniors who have performed in Tiger’s Roar each year since they were freshmen, and before that at the talent show at Southwest Junior High School, will serve as the masters of ceremony.
They’ve added singing to their repertoire this year. In the past, they’ve done skits and lip synched to songs while dancing.
The acts this year include singers, dancers, guitar players, piano soloists and appearances by the &uot;CAT&uot;aclysmic Show Choir, cheerleaders and danceline, said Megan Pence, publicity coordinator for the show.
&uot;Four of the singers wrote their own songs,&uot; she said.
The show is expected to last just over two hours, and includes an intermission.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. They are available at Andersen Hallmark Stores and at the door.
&uot;It always sells out,&uot; Brist said of the show. &uot; The kids all want to see it and parents want to see it.&uot; The director added that members of the community also make the show an annual tradition.
Before the Saturday performance, a &uot;show choir rescue dinner&uot; will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the commons area. The cost is $5 per plate, and includes sloppy joes, potato salad, veggies, drink and homemade cream puffs. Because of bad weather, the annual show choir competition, which had been scheduled for Saturday, had to be canceled.
