With strong winds and blowing snow coming into the region, some school districts dismissed classes early Tuesday.
Lake Mills in Iowa and United South Central and Alden-Conger in Minnesota have decided to let out early. Lake Mills dismissed at 1:15 p.m., and USC dismissed at 1:30 p.m. Alden-Conger dismissed at 1:45 p.m.
Alden-Conger Superintendent Joe Guanella said, at 1 p.m., the township roads to the west are filling in fast as the storm approaches.
A statement from the National Weather Service for counties in north-central Iowa says strong winds were expected to arrive this afternoon behind a cold front, causing snow to drift and making travel difficult in places. It says visibility was to be below a quarter mile. The statement says the winds would diminish by Tuesday evening.
