Minnesota statute allows a property owner of an accidentally or unintentionally damaged structure to apply for a tax reduction for two years.

Belshan proposed to authorize the abatement for those whose tax payment would be more than $50.

The county board also decided not to apply the remedy measure last year.

Also Tuesday, the board approved an agreement between the county and the state regarding the child support enforcement program.

Under the agreement, the county human service department will be responsible for administrating the program, which aims to establish paternity and secure financial support for minor children living apart from one or both parents.

The county attorney’s office will provide legal services, and the county administrator will be required to support the county’s commitments.
