Proposed changes to the way the Albert Lea Dance Team will be funded come before the school board at Tuesday night’s meeting. The board will be asked to approve an alternative to the current arrangement that will still allow the team to continue as a recognized school activity.
The proposal is the result of discussions between school officials and dance team boosters.
The board will also be asked to comply with new state regulations and certify that the district’s recent settlement with support staff is appropriate.
&uot;Basically, we need to prove up front to the state that we’re not overextending ourselves with this settlement,&uot; said Mark Stotts, director of finance and operations for the district.
The action is a new requirement from the state that is the result of salary commitments in other districts that put them into deficit spending situations, Stotts said.
&uot; They were making salary deals they couldn’t afford,&uot; he said. That hasn’t been a problem here, he added, but everyone has to go through the motions now, in order to comply with the law.
The school board is meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, since Monday is a school holiday for the Albert Lea District.
