The annual Red Cross fundraiser, Dancing with the Freeborn County Stars, kicked off Tuesday.
The fundraiser continues through March, ending at the dancing show at 7 p.m. March 17 at Albert Lea High School. Dancers will be out and about fundraising for the organization, and the event usually raises around $25,000 to $30,000.
“We are very excited,” Chris Avery, emergency services coordinator, said. “We have a very fun and energized group of dancers.”
Dancers include Melanie Bloom and Rusty Dawkins, Angie and Seth Stadheim, Mary and Nathan Johnson, Mary Nelson and LaMar Staloch, Tom and Linda Lang, Haley Allen and Sergio Chavez, Roxanne Ehrich and Roger Zeman and Kristen Dulas and Bryce Nelson.
Dancing coaches Roberta Grahn and Lynette and Brian Dawley will help the couples learn their steps. Avery said she hopes people help with the fundraising effort and said that it goes to a good cause.
“When dancers come knocking I hope people give generously because it’s for the Red Cross,” Avery said.
The dancers will show off their moves at the March 17 event, and they will be judged on technique and showmanship by a panel of judges. Tickets are not yet available, but will be made available closer to the show date. Tickets will cost $10 for general admission or $15 or $20 for reserved seating.
The event is being led by Cathy Porter and Steve Bonine. They will work with their committee to support dancers in fundraising, creating costumes and promoting the event. For more information contact the Red Cross at 373-4544.
