Albert Lea Community Theatre hopes to bring back some memories of chocolate milk and sleeping on a rug with its production, &uot;All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.&uot; The play opens tonight at the Albert Lea Civic Theatre and continues Friday and Saturday, and again Feb. 13-16 at the Civic Theatre. Rory Mattson directs the production, which is based on one of the books written by psychologist Robert Fulghum. It takes a funny, insightful and heart-warming look at what is profound in everyday life, and celebrates life, from the whimsy of childhood to the wisdom of old age.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend:

Friday, Feb. 8

– The Minnesota State Spring Barrow Show begins at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds in Albert Lea.

The tentative schedule includes: 8 a.m.-4 p.m. – Viewing commercial displays; 8 a.m. – Judging junior division pens; 11 a.m. – Judging junior individuals; 1 p.m. – Judging open individuals; 1:30 p.m.: Master Swine interviews, Judging Trucklots and Open Derby Barrows; 7:30 p.m. – donors’ banquet.

– The exhibit of Painter Richard Leet of Mason City and potter/clay artist O’Brien Tyrrell of Northwood continues at the Albert Lea Art Center, 224 S. Broadway. Hours are from noon-4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help offset Art Center costs.

– The Albert Lea Marching Tigers will host a chili feed at the American Legion in Albert Lea from 5:30-8 p.m. The event will not only feature dinner and desserts, but the Albert Lea Jazz Bands will be performing during dinner. The cost of the tickets is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children under age 5 will eat for free. Tickets will be available at the door or from band students. All proceeds will go to the Albert Lea Marching Tigers Band Booster organization. The money raised helps offset the summer tuition cost for every student in summer marching band.

– The Albert Lea Community Theatre production of &uot;All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten&uot; continues at the Civic Theatre. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. For tickets, call 377-4371.

Saturday, Feb. 9

– A benefit for Dennis and Diane Baseman will be held at Glenville-Emmons High School from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Events include: A pancake breakfast from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. with a bake sale during the same hours. Elementary basketball games with boys playing from 9-9:20 a.m. and girls from 9:30-9:50 a.m. Jared and Shanna Dawson perform in the cafeteria from 10-10:30 a.m. High school basketball games with boys playing from 11-11:20 a.m. and girls from 11:30-11:50 a.m. Long ball (free throw shots) at 12:30 p.m. Cammie’s Dance Studio performs from 12:30-1 p.m. A raffle and auction from 1-2:30 p.m. Items include 40 acres of custom application from Speltz; 5,000-bushel grain hauling up to 20-mile radius; hand-crafted chest; wall mirror; quilt; pies; and more. There will also be activities in the halls: concessions with popcorn and pop, a ring toss and bean bag throw from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. An account has been set up at Citizens State Bank of Glenville. Checks should be made out to the Baseman Benefit Fund. All donations are freewill offerings.

– The 12th Annual Historical Faire takes place at Northbridge Mall from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For sale will be pottery, artwork, black powder supplies, clothing, jewelry, woodworking, books and early America arts and crafts. Over 40 tables with craftsmen from three states will be selling their wares. There will be a tipi and demonstrations. Artists will also be doing portraits of costumed participants. The event is free to the public.

– St. Theodore School will hold its eighth annual benefit auction and extravaganza in Marian Hall at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The family event is open to the public and everyone is welcome. There will be a silent auction starting at 4 p.m. and a live auction beginning at 7:30 p.m. There will be a $200 door prize given away to one adult winner (18 and older), drawn near the end of the live auction. The winner must be present to win. There will be food booths located throughout the event. Choose from tacos and nachos, pizza and breadsticks, chili and chicken soup as well as a dessert booth with pies and cheesecake. Admission is free.

– A taco night fund-raiser for Emmons Borderfest will be held from 5-8 p.m. at the Emmons American Legion Hall. Soft shell or hard shell tacos will be sold two for $3.
