The United States is still under the gun.

The United States is still under the gun. That seemed to be the message that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was making when he reported that the U.S. remains on high alert and will stay that way for some time.
He even warned that if there are future attacks, they could be deadlier than the Sept.11 tragedy. There has been speculation that large water systems and nuclear plants may be next on terrorists’ checklist.
The warning should be taken seriously not only by the nation, but individuals, counties and cities as well. Such entities should prepare for the unthinkable as if Sept. 11 were yesterday.
It’s far too early to become complacent and let our guard down. We must remain diligent in protecting ourselves.
