Rebels’ top scorer tore ACL on Dec. 28
The United South Central girls’ basketball team’s leading scorer, Hannah Goemann, learned on Thursday that the knee injury she suffered against Hayfield on Dec. 28 was a torn anterior cruciate ligament. She will miss the rest of the season.
Rebels’ coach Stu Hendrickson said the junior, who is also a standout cross country and track runner, won’t have surgery until mid-February because she’s also battling a minor illness.
Meanwhile, the Rebels won for the first time in two games without Goemann on Friday, 66-40 over Randolph.
Katie Ovrebo had 14 points and three steals, and Tara Bauman had 12 points for the Rebels, who are currently in second place in the Gopher Conference.
“I thought Bauman came off the bench and stepped up,” Hendrickson said. “We’re going to need more of that from her. We’re going to need more contributions from more players without Hannah.”
The Rebels play next at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday against Loyola Catholic in Mankato.
