Mankato East snaps 10-game losing streak against Tiger girls

Mankato East snapped a 10-game losing streak Friday against the Albert Lea girls’ basketball team with a 53-40 victory in Mankato.
The Cougars (6-16, 5-11 Big Nine) shot 58 percent in the first half and 52 percent in the second half against the Tigers, who had a four-game winning streak snapped.
“We can put out a much better effort than tonight,” said Albert Lea head coach Sean Gillam. “We just didn’t bring it.”
The Tigers (11-11, 9-7 Big Nine) shot 22 percent from the field and struggled defensively against the Cougars.
Taylor Homan led Mankato East with 23 points and Kelsey Mosher scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Morgan Stadheim led Albert Lea with 21 points and Abbey Arends scored 10 points.
The Tigers play Rochester Mayo Tuesday in Albert Lea.
