MAPLETON – The United South Central wrestling team turned in a strong performance in Saturday’s Maple River Invitational, taking fourth out of eight schools.

MAPLETON – The United South Central wrestling team turned in a strong performance in Saturday’s Maple River Invitational, taking fourth out of eight schools.
Madelia/Truman was first with 205 points, with Sibley East a close second at 202. Following were Tracy-Milroy/Balaton with 129.5, USC 128, Fairmont 102.5, Maple River 80, Buffalo Lake-Hector 58 and Alden-Conger 53.
The Rebels had four finalists and two champions.
Chance Carlson took the title at 135 pounds while John Niebuhr was first at 145. Taking second were Kenny Sandt at 119 and Chris Adams at 140.
Other USC places: Jake Hovland, third, 112; Josh Levine, third, 125; John Bathke, third, 189; Matt Linder, third, 275; Sam Stevermer, sixth, 103.
A night earlier, the Rebels lost a South Central Conference dual meet 46-27 at New Ulm.
Winning for USC were Sandt, 119; Levine, 125; Adams, 140; Niebuhr, 145; Brian Leesch, 171.
William Petersen led Alden-Conger at Maple River, winning the 130-pound title with a fall in the finals. The Knights’ David Schmidt was second at 160.
Also placing for Alden-Conger: Matt Kalis, fourth, 171; Shaun Whelan, sixth, 119; Alex Bloedel, sixth, 275.
