S, Iowa – The visitors from North Central may have been scrappy, but they weren’t scrappy enough.

The Lake Mills Bulldogs proved too strong in an Iowa district volleyball semifinal, winning 3-0 Wednesday night. The game scores were 15-7, 15-5, 15-4.

Lake Mills ended North Central’s season at 18-16-1 and improved its record to 28-6-1, advancing to the championship match Monday with a site and opponent to be determined.

On Wednesday, it was a case of the Bulldogs simply overpowering their opponents.

&uot;Our offense was on fire tonight,&uot; said coach Jim Boehmer. &uot;We hit the ball hard and got contributions from many girls.&uot;

And they played better as the match wore on.

&uot;We started a little sluggish, but we got things going,&uot; said Boehmer. &uot;North Central battled; they kept balls alive.&uot;

While Kelsey Christianson and Katie Pederson led the offense with 17 and 16 kills, respectively, Boehmer said they had a lot of help.

&uot;Kjerstin Back and Becky Nelson should get most of the credit for our assists and kills tonight,&uot; said Boehmer. &uot;They passed extremely well. They were big contributors.&uot;

Ashley Pederson added eight kills and Jill Helgeson had seven for the Bulldogs, who got 34 ace assists from Katy Kingland. Helgeson was 20-for-20 serving with four aces, Kingland 16-for-18 with four aces.
