The Levisen twins connected.

Liz Reynen made sure the Northfield Raiders did not.

Mariah Levisen set up her sister, Megan, for the first goal and Reynen shut out the Raiders as the Tigers won 2-0 in a Section 2A girls’ soccer quarterfinal game at Hammer Field Saturday night.

&uot;It was a good way to start the playoffs, with a shutout,&uot; said Tigers coach Todd Lange. &uot;I think the seniors enjoyed their last night on Hammer Field – and we had fun.&uot;

The Tigers improved their record to 6-9-4 and advanced to Tuesday’s semifinal round, probably at top-seeded Prior Lake, at a time to be determined.

The Levisen twins, among the seniors playing their final game at Hammer, teamed to score in the ninth minute of the first half. It was the first time they’ve combined on a goal this year.

&uot;That was fun to see,&uot; said Lange.

Mariah Levisen scored in the 22nd minute, assisted by Kristy Swanson.

It was the sixth shutout of the season for Reynen, a junior, and the seventh of the year for the Tigers.

Among those playing well, according to Lange, were midfielders Katie Stenseth, Laura Olson and Swanson.

&uot;Katie had some terrific tackles,&uot; said Lange. &uot;Laura set up some pretty passing combinations, along with Kristy.&uot;

It was the third section tournament win for the ALHS girls’ soccer program, following a 1997 victory over Eagan and a win over Caledonia last year.
