GRAND MEADOW – A 93-yard kickoff return, a 30-yard punt return and a 75-yard punt return added up to a 33-0 deficit for the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines.
There was no recovering from it.
Those were among the first-quarter plays by the Grand Meadow SuperLarks, who handed the visiting Wolverines a 43-6 loss in a Southern Confederacy Conference football game Friday night.
&uot;Our defense played well when it had to,&uot; said Wolverines coach Tony Barnack, whose team held Grand Meadow to 210 total yards. &uot;But special teams killed us. Before we knew it we were down 33-0.&uot;
The Wolverines’ lone score came late in the third quarter on a 5-yard run by quarterback Paul Kleven, who led the team with 38 yards rushing on 12 carries. He was 10-for-21 passing for 78 yards and one interception.
Defensive leaders were Matt Learn, 11 tackles; Kleven, nine tackles; Zach Adams, Maurice Chessmore, Derek Lau and Kris Knudson, seven tackles each; Nick Flatness, five tackles, one sack.
