GLENVILLE – Even though Alden-Conger has struggled all season and not won a game, Glenville-Emmons football coach Tony Barnack was troubled to see the Knights take a 6-0 lead on his team.
&uot;It’s the Alden/Glenville game, they’re always going to be ready,&uot; said Barnack. &uot;I was more than a little concerned.&uot;
He didn’t rest easily until the fourth quarter.
The Knights took an 8-6 halftime lead and, after scoring on their opening second-half drive, added 20 points in the final period to win their homecoming game 36-6 at Glenville Friday night.
It was the second win in a row for the Wolverines after an 0-3 start. The Knights fell to 0-5.
Two muffed punts helped set up the Knights for the game’s first score, a 13-yard halfback pass from Josh Wills to David Enser. The Wolverines fumbled three times in the first quarter, limiting them to five offensive plays.
A 36-yard touchdown run by Paul Kleven and Maurice Chessmore’s PAT run put the Wolverines up 8-6 at halftime.
The Wolverines ran more than seven minutes off the clock on a 13-play, 70-yard scoring drive to start the second half. Kleven capped it with a 2-yard run.
Chessmore ran for three fourth-quarter touchdowns.
Kleven led the Wolverines’ defense with 14 tackles and a forced fumble. Zach Adams had 11 tackles, Nick Flatness nine tackles and a sack. Tony Walk, who plays special teams only, had five tackles and a forced fumble. Chessmore and Jake Burgett had interceptions.
