The list of candidates for the top post in Freeborn County government is down to five finalists and an alternate, after the county board narrowed their search Tuesday.
After receiving 40 applications for the job, James Brimeyer of the Brimeyer Group, an executive search firm, brought ten applications to the county board for consideration at its meeting Tuesday. The board made five picks and chose one alternate, said interim administrator Darryl Meyer.
&uot;At this point, they don’t talk as to the names of the individuals,&uot; Meyer said.
Brimeyer will now perform background and reference checks on the finalists, and will contact each to see if they can travel to Freeborn County for interviews July 24-25.
The finalists are all from Minnesota and Wisconsin, Meyer said.
Brimeyer’s company was hired this year to head the county’s search for a new administrator to replace Gene Smith, who left the county for a job in Menomonie, Wis.
Meyer has been the interim administrator since Smith left.
