It has been less than two months since a tornado left a long scar down Glenville’s Main Street. But Stan Bremseth, president of the Glenville Boosters, said it was never an option to cancel Glenville Days this Saturday.

&uot;I never heard a single person mention that possibility,&uot; he said. &uot;I’d be really disappointed if anyone thought we couldn’t or shouldn’t move ahead with it.&uot;

Bremseth said people in the area have several reasons to check out Glenville Days. Along with the 5K run, dances and family activities, the event gives the community a chance to celebrate its recovery.

&uot;It’s going to be a great time, and we need it after all the hard work these last several weeks,&uot; he said. &uot;It’s also a chance for us to thank everyone in the area who helped us after the tornado.&uot;

More than anything, though, Bremseth wants people to come to town and take in Glenville’s cleaned-up Main Street.

&uot;I don’t think it has ever looked better,&uot; he said.

The only signs of the tornado’s impact, Bremseth said, are a couple of vacant lots where structures used to stand. But everything else looks terrific, he said.

&uot;We’ve got the American flags out, and the Women of Today put flowers out all over town,&uot; Bremseth said. &uot;Glenville is looking good right now.&uot;

Bremseth said he’s especially looking forward to Saturday’s parade at 11 a.m. Starting at the high school, the parade’s 120 units will finish with a trip straight up Main Street.

&uot;It’s kind of like the final part of taking back Main Street from that tornado,&uot; Bremseth said.

All day during the event, the boosters plan to sell souvenir T-shirts for $10 and commemorative videos for $15. Bremseth said both items show pride in the town for rallying together to clean up after the storm.

&uot;This deal – the tornado – it woke people up. For what happened, and how Glenville looks now, people are feeling good,&uot; he said.
