EMMONS – Crowds swelled for concerts, parades and classic cars as sunny weather helped the second-annual Borderfest celebration, an organizer said.
Receipts had not been counted yet this morning, but festival chairman Jared Dawson said attendance was up from last year, which was the first year of the festival.
Dawson estimated that more than 250 cars participated in the classic car cruise Saturday, which wound a course from Alden to Emmons. About 1,500 people were in town for Thursday’s Johnny Holm Band concert.
&uot;Johnny brings a big crowd when he gets back,&uot; Dawson said.
Another 1,500 to 2,000 were in Emmons Saturday for a day that included a walk/run, city-wide garage sales, the car cruise and a Killer Hayseeds concert.
Attendance at the Friday parade was tough to estimate, Dawson said.
Dawson and more than a dozen other volunteers put this year’s celebration together. Organizers will immediately begin working on next year’s festival, he said.
&uot; It’ll be one of those (festivals) each year that’ll get bigger and better.,&uot; he said.
