Knights roll into tourney semifinals

ADAMS – The Alden-Conger boys’ basketball team rolled to victory in the opening round of the Southland Invitational Thursday, defeating Grand Meadow 79-46 at Adams.

ADAMS – The Alden-Conger boys’ basketball team rolled to victory in the opening round of the Southland Invitational Thursday, defeating Grand Meadow 79-46 at Adams.
The Knights started fast, taking a 29-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and extending it to 45-17 at halftime. It was 66-31 after three periods.
While coach Paul Ragatz said the Knights need to improve their free-throw shooting – they were 14-for-26 at the line – he was pleased with their 62-percent clip from the field, where they hit 41 of 66 shots.
The Knights totaled 40 rebounds and had 23 steals to counter 14 turnovers.
Tim Bruns led five scorers in double figures, with 19 points. He also had seven steals and six rebounds.
Also reaching double digits were Aaron Evenson with 16 points, Vinnie VanEnglenburg 11, Derek Thorson 10 and Pete Faugstad 10.
Thorson had a team-high nine rebounds. Paul Scrabeck pulled down eight rebounds, Faugstad six. VanEnglenburg added six steals.
The Knights advanced to the semifinals set for 8 p.m. tonight.
