Funeral services for Irene Evelyn Brown, 85, of Albert Lea will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Daniel Baker will officiate. Interment will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Irene died Monday, May 3, 2010, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community.
Irene Evelyn Brown was born on Dec. 25, 1924, at Hartland, the daughter of Arthur and Nellie (Knutson) Clemetson. She graduated from Freeborn High School in 1943. Irene moved to Albert Lea in 1944 and was employed in the office at Wilson & Co. On Feb. 27, 1948, she was united in marriage to Aldean Brown at the First Lutheran parsonage in Albert Lea. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and was involved in many church activities including Caring and Sharing. Irene was also a member of the Albert Lea Senior Center and served on the Senior Adult Education Council. She volunteered for many groups and organizations such as the public library, Partners in Health, the Story Lady Doll & Toy Museum, and Thorne Crest Retirement Center. Irene enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables, canning, doing crafts, sewing, knitting and biking around the lake.
Survivors include her children: Jodi (Gary) Pericak and Paul (Sue) Brown; grandchildren: Jason (Amanda) Pericak, Annie (Jeff) Bolton, Angie Zimmerman, David Brown, and Evan Brown; great-grandchildren: Lillie, Emma, and Cooper Bolton, Kamryn Brown, Sean and Emma Zimmerman, and Logan Pericak; sister, Stella Langlie; and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Aldean; and her sister, Helen Wayne.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or Thorne Crest.
