Ethel McGill

Funeral services for Ethel Irene McGill of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Revs. Todd Walsh and Andrea Meyer will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery.
Ethel died Thursday evening, March 4, 2010, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community in Albert Lea. She was 92 years old.
Ethel was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Geneva, the daughter of Andrew and Emma C. (Anderson) Peterson. She was baptized at the Community Lutheran Church in Geneva on April 1, 1918. She was later confirmed in faith at the Community Lutheran Church on April 9, 1933, by the Rev. A.H. (Andy) Anderson.
Ethel attended Geneva-Ellendale High School. On May 18, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lawrence O. McGill in Geneva. She was a Freeborn County-Albert Lea area resident all of her life.
In earlier years, Ethel had been an active volunteer for Brownies and a den mother for Cub Scouts. She also loved to roller skate.
Ethel had been employed over the years by Wilson & Co., Albert Lea Bakery and Church Offset Printing.
Ethel was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday school and participated in circle and Bible study. Bible study was a very important part of her life. She enjoyed planning and entertaining her Bible study group.
Ethel was a “Meals on the Go” volunteer for more than 10 years. She enjoyed gardening and her clean house. She was a talented watercolor artist. She and Lawrence enjoyed their many travels together including 46 contiguous states as well as Hawaii, Europe, Egypt and the Holy Lands.
Ethel is survived by her husband, Lawrence O. McGill of Albert Lea; son Dennis D. McGill and wife Nancy of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Jody B. McGill of Galena, Ill., Courtney and husband, Dr. Pawel Stachowicz of Neenah, Wis., Kelly (McGill) and husband Fred J. Harris of Chaska, Ryan P. McGill of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren, Cody Michael, Kathryn Karberg, Calvin Karberg, Zachary McGill, Mikolaj Stachowicz, Patryk Stachowicz and Fred (Freddie) Harris Jr.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Clifford DeRaad.
Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church or Crossroads Community Hospice.
