Some local actors are asking you to get into the Christmas spirit, and, yes, they know it’s February.
Albert Lea Community Theatre will present “A Winnie the Pooh Christmas Tail” next week. Director Sue Jorgensen said that while the characters are getting ready for a Christmas party in the play that the show is more about friendship.
“Eeyore has lost his tail, and they’re trying to find it before the Christmas party,” Jorgensen said.
The play is interactive, and Jorgensen said the audience will be encouraged to help look for the tail. She spoke highly of the set design and said it looks as if the characters are acting on a map of 100 Aker Wood.
“It’s just a sweet, wonderful story,” Jorgensen said.
Lisa Sturtz plays Winnie the Pooh, Jenika Boersma plays Piglet, Kris Bartley plays Eeyore, Matt Stoneking plays Tigger, Kristan Dye plays Rabbit, Rebekah Sousa plays Kanga, Nancy Lahs plays Owl and Amelia Holcomb plays Christopher Robin.
Jorgensen said they’re using costumes rented from a shop in the Twin Cities that make the actors very closely resemble the characters.
“The actors are doing a fantastic job of channeling their inner children and bringing these characters to life,” Jorgensen said. “I think the audience will have a wonderful time.”
Jorgensen said the show runs a little longer than one hour, and the show also features 12 songs. Al Jorgensen is the set designer, Kathy Brekke is the production manager and Laura Ellis is the pianist.
The show opens at 7 p.m. Feb. 16. It shows again at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 and 18, and there will be a 2 p.m. matinee on Feb. 18.
